Movie-A-Day #307: Mr. Mom (1983).
Today is both International Men Make Dinner Day and National Sandwich Day. Surely the two are related, as is Michael Keaton in “Mr. Mom.” Yes, it’s based on the gender politics of your parents’ (or grandparents’) generation, but hey… watching men trying to be domestic is funny for all ages, amirite?
Movie-A-Day #306: Day of the Dead (1985).
Today is Dia de los Muertos – the Day of the Dead – across Latin America. George A. Romero’s “Day of the Dead” isn’t about Dia de los Muertos. But why not revisit it anyway.
Movie-A-Day #305: Prospero’s Books (1991).
William Shakespeare’s final play, “The Tempest” first opened on this day in 1611 at Whitehall Palace in London. Peter Greenaway’s adaptation “Prospero’s Books” did not open on this day, but it does feature the great Sir John Gielgud and about a zillion naked people. I’m not sure what Shakespeare would think of that.
Movie-A-Day #304: Halloween (1978).
Happy Halloween! Now get off the computer and go enjoy your night of ghoulish fun. And if you’re going to be watching scary movies, remember to stick to the original. Accept no substitutes!
Movie-A-Day #303: The Crow (1994).
Tonight is Devil’s Night, a tradition that started in Detroit that involves committing vandalism and general mayhem on the night before Halloween. In “The Crow” Eric Draven (Brandon Lee) gets murdered on Devil’s Night, uses the powers of a crow to come back from the dead and get revenge. So have fun tonight, kids, but don’t awaken any more vengeful spirits than necessary, OK?
