Today is Saxophone Day. One of the masters of the instrument was Charlie “Bird” Parker, who was played by Forest Whitaker in Clint Eastwood’s biopic. His life was short, but his shadow was huge. And, as Mingus reminded us, if he were a gunslinger there’d be a whole lot of dead copycats.
