Movie-A-Day #283: Bride of the Monster (1955).
October 10, 2011
He tampered in God’s domain… And the world’s most lovable bad movie maker Edward D. Wood Jr. would have been 87 today if he hadn’t drunk himself to an early grave. But we still have his fabulously incompetent – but thoroughly fun – body of work to enjoy. “Plan 9 From Outer Space” may have been his masterwork, but “Bride of the Monster” is just as wonderfully bad and shouldn’t be overlooked. Because it’s not every day you get to see a Hollywood legend like Bela Lugosi wrestling a rubber octopus.

“Bride of the Monster” and “Night of the Ghouls” both tie as my 2nd favorite Ed Wood movie, “Plan 9 From Outer Space” being the best, of course. Despite the lack of continuity, abstract sets and silly writing, Ed Wood’s movies are highly entertaining and shouldn’t be laughed off. They’re all worth a look.
“Plan 9” is by far my favorite too, but I’ve already posted about it before. So today’s was a toss up between this and “Orgy of the Dead.”
