Movie-A-Day #101: Buffalo ’66 (1998).
April 11, 2011
Wow, Vincent Gallo turns 50 today. He’s older than I thought he was. Anyway, his career has taken some strange twists and turns over the years, but his creative voice has always been distinctive, if not always comprehensible. For a look at the intriguing (but not self-indulgent) side of Gallo, take a look at “Buffalo ’66,” which he starred in, co-wrote, directed and even wrote the music for. This story of an ex-con (Gallo) who kidnaps a dancer (Christina Ricci) so that he can appear respectable to his estranged parents is both compelling and unsettling. And a little touching.
