Movie-A-Day #42: Zero Effect (1998).

February 11, 2011

For National Shut-In Visitation Day – after you’ve done your good deed of visiting someone in need near you – why not pay a visit to Daryl Zero, Bill Pullman’s brilliant but paranoidly reclusive detective in “Zero Effect”? It’s a fun, unambitious little mystery comedy from writer/director Jake Kasdan that also features Ben Stiller and Ryan O’Neal. Like a shut-in, this movie requires going a little off the beaten path to find, but it’s worth it.

I keep thinking I need to re-watch it. I don’t remember it well; I just remember liking it.

I enjoyed it. A bit uneven in spots, but it’s quirky and has some charm. It was interesting that they cast Stiller – the bigger star, even at the time – in the sidekick role.
