Movie-A-Day #12: The Ice Storm (1997).
Man, it’s cold outside. If you’re reading this in the United States, there’s a good chance are you’ve either just had a major snow storm, are shoveling out from one currently, or are bracing yourself for the one that’s about to hit. The last thing you probably want to do is to bring some of that winter chill inside. But even if you’re snuggled up warm beside your fireplace, Ang Lee’s “The Ice Storm” is still worth your time. Adapted from Rick Moody’s novel, it has a top notch cast, including Kevin Kline, Joan Allen, Sigourney Weaver, Elijah Wood, Christina Ricci, Tobey Maguire and Katie Holmes. This portrait of two generations of two families trying to cope with their emotional distance is cold and bracing, just like the weather raging outside.
